Gujarat launches India’s first common admission services portal

Ahmedabad : In a bid to streamline the admission process in the current higher education system and slashing the admission time required from two months to a mere fortnight for undergraduates in universities, the Gujarat government on Wednesday launched a Common Admission Services (GCAS) portal, the first of such services in the country.

The Minister of Medical, Higher & Technical Education, Rushikesh Patel launched this portal which will serve as a common platform for undergraduate courses at government universities.

Eliminating the need to pay fees for application forms from multiple colleges, as per the current practice, this portal The students will be required only to make a one-time payment for portal registration, thus benefiting  the students from financial savings.

Under the existing system, students typically spend around Rs 500 on admission forms for different colleges.

The shared admission platform will gather student information, generate a consolidated merit list, and assign colleges based on students’ academic scores. Furthermore, students will have the freedom to apply for numerous courses without facing supplementary charges for each application.

This portal is anticipated to bolster security measures and provide real-time data to the state education department throughout the admissions procedure.
