Surat: In a shocking incident, the Surat health department seized about 8,000 kilograms of adulterated ghee from Shree Veer Milk Products unit in Masma village, Olpad taluka on October 25. This has raised concerns about the safety of ghee and other milk products sold in Surat, especially during the festive season.

Darshan Naik, general secretary of Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC), has demanded strict legal action against the manufacturers of adulterated ghee for playing with the health of the innocent people in Surat. He has also urged the health department to dig deeper into the adulteration network that has spread its wings in Surat.

In a letter to district collector Ayush Oak, Naik stated that adulterated ghee can cause serious health problems, including diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and even death. He also pointed out that adulterated ghee is often used to make sweets and other food items, which can pose a serious risk to public health.

Naik has demanded that the health department take the following steps to address the issue of adulterated ghee in Surat:

Conduct raids on all ghee manufacturing and packaging units in Surat to identify and seize adulterated ghee.

Collect samples of ghee from sweetmeat shops and other food outlets for laboratory testing.

Take strict action against the manufacturers and traders of adulterated ghee, including cancellation of licenses and imprisonment.

Naik has also urged the people of Surat to be vigilant and avoid buying ghee from unknown brands or sellers. He has advised people to buy ghee only from reputed brands and sellers, and to check the quality of ghee before buying it.

The adulteration of ghee is a serious problem that can pose a serious risk to public health. The authorities must take all necessary steps to crack down on the adulteration mafia and protect the health of the people.
